IRSC Men’s Basketball Defeat Miami Dade College 104-97

Indian River State College men's basketball, who were ranked 6th in the January 23rd NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll, lost earlier in the week against Broward College; but got back on track as they collected their 17th win on Saturday by defeating Miami Dade College 107-97.

It was the eighth time the Pioneers past the century mark on the scoreboard as they are averaging 91.7 points per game.  In a game with 50 total fouls, several Pioneers found themselves in early foul trouble slowing their normal offensive productivity.  Down early in the contest 26-20 the River responded with a driving lay-up by Kimani Binder and two quick three-pointers by Doente Weaver giving the Pioneers the lead 28-26 with 6:17 left in the half. IRSC increased the lead to 11, but Miami Dade battled back and went into the half down 5, 47-42.

The Pionners pushed the lead to double digits in the second half, but Miami Dade would not go away.  A three-point basket cut the lead to 4 with 3:32 to go in the game, but a costly technical foul allowed IRSC to convert two free-throws and hold on for the win.

Deontae Weaver scored his IRSC career high with 34 points, followed by Anthony Brown with 18, Cedric Jackson and Kimani Binder both added 12.  The Pioneers will be in action on Saturday as they travel to Palm Beach State College for a noon tip.
