Men's basketball pick up first road win of the season

The Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team traveled to Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday night to take on State College of Florida – Manatee for their first road game of the season.  The Pioneers continued their winning ways and came away with a decisive 93-63 win.   IRSC built a 12-9 lead with 14 minutes remaining and finished the half with a ten point lead 41-31.  Manatee scored the first basket of the second half and closed the lead to eight, but the Pioneers went on a big run and increase the lead to 17, 52-35 with 15:32 left on the clock.  IRSC moved the lead to as many as 40 points with the shooting of Anthony Brown and Kimani Binder who combined for 21 points in the second half.  "We did a much better job of moving the ball the in second half and got the shots we were looking for," stated Head Coach Charlie Wilson. 

Leading scorers for Indian River were Cedric Jackson with 20 points, Anthony Brown 17, and Deontae Weaver added 13.  The Pioneers also controlled the boards out rebounding Manatee 48 to 32.  Coach Wilson likes the way his team is rebounding, "Our effort controlling the boards so far this season has been solid, if we want to be successful this year that will have to be a focal point."  Leading rebounders were Cedric Jackson with 7, Anthony Brown 7, Marc Syle 6, and Oliver Ehrnvall also pulled in 6. 

IRSC Men's Basketball Veteran's Classic will be held Friday November 10th at Fort Pierce with Palm Beach State College vs. Florida National J.V. at 5 p.m. and IRSC vs. Andrews at 7 p.m.  Saturday November 11th will feature Palm Beach State College vs. Andrew College at 2 p.m. and IRSC taking on Florida National J.V. at 4 p.m.  All proceeds of the tournament will be donated to local Veteran organizations.   Admissions is $5.00 per person with Veterans, Children under 5 years, and students and faculty with IRSC I.D. receiving free admission.  All Veterans in attendance Friday November 10th will be recognized for their service at 6:30 p.m. at center court.
