Indian River State College Men’s Basketball Preview

The Indian River State College Men's Basketball Team held their Blue and Gold Scrimmage on October 26th in conjunction with the IRSC Women's Basketball Team.  Admission to the event was three canned food items or three dollars.  The donations collected will be used to help stock the Pioneer Food Pantry.  The evening held scrimmages, 3-point contest, dunk contest, and a half-court shot give away.

This was a great opportunity for fans to get a glimpse of the 2017-2018 Pioneers.  IRSC hopes to improve on their 2016-17 record of 17-12.  The Pioneers have four players back for their sophomore seasons; they are Cedric Jackson, Shaq Rombley, Deontae Weaver, and Kevin Grace.  These four sophomores played a major role in last season team's success.  "We are counting on each of these sophomores making major contributions this season," stated IRSC Men's Head Coach Charlie Wilson.

The Pioneers also have two red-shirt freshmen on the roster, Marc Syle and Jihadu Brunner-Brown.  Both young men practiced with the team last season, but did not participate in games.  "Practicing with the team has really helped both of these players, they have showed tremendous improvement," pointed out Coach Wilson.

Three D-I transfers were added to the roster and should make an immediate impact on the season. Justin Tucker, Anthony Brown, and Oliver Ehrnvall.  Their added experience should pay great dividends for the Pioneers this season.  Rounding out the roster are five freshmen; Jelani Rogers, Kimani Binder, Eunique Arnold, D.J. Winston, and Charlie Daniels.  Coach Wilson really likes this recruiting class, "the players we brought in have the talent to be competitive night in and night out.  I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish this season."

The IRSC Men's Basketball Team will open the season on November 2nd in Fort Peirce against the Ave Marie JV at 5:30 p.m.
