The Pioneers Move To 6-2 In The Southern Conference Standings

IRSC increased their early lead to twelve points, 26-14, on a lob pass from Willy Nunez (6'6" sophomore, Orlando FL) to Shaq Rombley (6'8" freshmen, Alachua, FL) who slammed home the pass for one of his five dunks in the contest with 14:47 on the clock.  The Pioneers took a 47-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Willy Nunez started the second half off connecting on a three-point basket (one of seven for the game) moving the lead back to sixteen.  Miami Dade continued with their up-tempo style of basketball and continued pressing and trapping throughout the game.  IRSC continued attacking the pressure and did a solid job of taking care of the basketball.  "We had a few careless turnovers during the game, but for the most part we stayed under control and played our style of basketball," explained Head Coach Charlie Wilson.  The Pioneers dished out 31 assists, one of their highest totals of the year, with point guard Eli Farley (5'8" sophomore, Orlando, FL) handling the majority of the ball-handling responsibilities.  He kept the team organized and the ball moving on offensive while dishing out a game high 10 assists followed by Nunez with 9.

The Pioneers used their size to control the rebounding aspect of the game out rebounding Miami Dade 57-45.  Shaq Rombley pulled in 12 rebounds and 6'5" sophomore Andrew Anderson (Brampton, Ontario), 6'8" sophomore Joshua Oliver (Jacksonville, FL), and 6'7" sophomore Jaylin Stewart (Tallahassee, FL) each grabbed 7.

IRSC was led in scoring by Nunez with 30 points, followed by Rombley 19, Shaun Willett (6'4" guard, Palm Bay, FL) 11, Farley 11, and Anderson added 10.

The win moved IRSC's record to 15-6 and 6-2 in the conference.  The Pioneers are currently tied for first in the Southern Conference with Eastern Florida State College who is ranked 15th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Poll.  IRSC defeated Eastern on January 10th in Fort Pierce 77-71, and they are scheduled for a re-match this Wednesday, February 1st in Melbourne, FL with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
