Another Pioneers Sweep

TAMPA, FL- Indian River has swept a Citrus Conference series for the fourth time this year. The Pioneers won both of their games on Friday, April 19th, 9-6 in extra innings in game one and 7-5 in game two. Indian River improves to 34-11 overall and 21-9 in Citrus Conference play, now standing atop the standings with a half-game lead over FSW.

Game one was highlighted by some huge swings of the bat and big-time relief pitching by the bullpen. Diego Alana collected three hits, none bigger than his single in the eighth inning to secure the win. Freshman Chris Knier threw five and a third innings in relief, striking out six, while freshman Justin Minaberry finished the game with his third win of the year, going an inning and two thirds, allowing only one hit while striking out four.

In game two, Tampa native Jace Trautner got the nod for the Pioneers. Trautner earned his third win of the year, going three and a third innings without allowing a run while striking out three. Sammy Beir earned his third save of the year, pitching two and a third innings and striking out two. Danny Baez, Matt Rubin, and AJ Hunerburg led the charge for the Pioneers, each driving in two runs while having multiple hits.

The Pioneers have a four-game week ahead of them as they aim to win the Citrus Conference.
