The River Pitching Staff Dominates in Wednesday’s Win

Runs were tough to come by in Wednesday's ball game, but The River prevailed in a tight game 3-1 over Lake Sumter State College.  The IRSC staff dominated from pitch one, only allowing one hit in the game.   Niels Stone was credited with his first victory of the year for the Pioneers.  He allowed one hit and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.  Tyler Suellentrop was first in relief for The River.  Suellentrop dominated for two and one third innings by striking out three and allowing no baserunners, before handing the ball off to Christian O'Kelly.  O'Kelly worked a scoreless 9th inning while striking out two, to earn his first save of the year.

The River offense did all of their damage in the 4th inning.  Cole Brutcher started the inning off with a leadoff triple.  JD Stubbs singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Brutcher, Axel Salgado singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Paul Benitez singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.  Tinsley took the loss for Lake Sumter State College.  He allowed five hits and three runs over three and a third innings, striking out seven.  Salgado led IRSC with two hits in three at bats.  The River will be back in action on Friday at home, against Seminole State College.
