Baseball opens up fall season

Baseball opens up fall season

The River Baseball program kicked off it's fall scrimmage season this past Thursday and Saturday. The Pioneers began practices, small groups, and strength and conditioning in late August. They kicked off their fall slate with a three game set with Broward State College.

This begins the first full year in the new era of the River baseball program, as the 2017 fall squad welcomes 22 new faces.

Indian River played three close games with Broward and saw a lot of bright spots in those games. The fall will commence in mid-November with The Juco All Star Showcase, then the 2nd annual Intra Squad World Series and Cookout. Last year's event was a success and the Pioneers are looking to build off of it and continue to build a tradition.

Coach Kingston had a few comments about the fall so far, "There is a good, positive, vibe on the field right now with a lot of healthy competition going on. As we move towards building our culture, it has been nice to be around a group of guys who really seem to like each other, root for each other, and push each other. We are looking to build a sustainable and successful program, not an overnight success. I believe we are heading in the right direction and laying a nice foundation. These guys have a chance to make huge strides this year with continued work on the field, in small groups, in the weight room, and in the classroom. I am very proud of them so far, but the bar will continue to be raised."

The River's next fall scrimmage will be at Seminole State College, this Saturday, at 1pm
