Pioneers Break Through

Pioneers Break Through

Indian River comes through with their first conference win of the 2017 campaign. Home turf proved sweet as the Pioneers never wavered though they trailed majority of the game. Geoge Helbig got the start for the Pioneers and though he gave up three early runs he kept the Pioneers in the game long enough to mount a comeback. The comeback came in the 8th inning in which the Pioneers batted around and scored seven runs. A strong bullpen appearance for the second day in a row by Clayton Morell leads to his first collegiate win. Andres Fernandez came in for the rare relief appearance, and even rarer one pitch save as he induced a double play to end the game. The offensive catalyst for the day was leadoff hitter AJ Hrica who has really turned the corner offensively as his freshman season has progressed. The Pioneers look to carry the momentum from this win in to Friday's matchup with Palm Beach here in Fort Pierce at 3:00pm.
