The Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Nick Snyder was plated by an Eddie McKenna sac fly in the top of the first. The good times were quickly forgotten as Broward answered with a four run bottom of the inning. To make matters worse, the Pioneers leading hitter Kohl Gilmore was hit in the mouth by a thrown ball and had to be removed from the game and treated at a local hospital. Kohl received treatment and was back with the team following the game. As for the remainder of the game, the Pioneers struggled to string their hits together and mount a comeback thus falling 9-3 and 0-2 to begin conference play. Indian River will be back in action Thursday at Miami-Dade at 2:00.
