Pioneers split doubleheader with Santa Fe

The Pioneers took on Santa Fe for game one of a double header, the days first game was an exciting one. Despite Mr. Gilmores 4th homer of the year the Saints led by four heading into the final two frames, when things got interesting. The Pioneers cut the lead to two off a home run by Eddie McKenna heading into the last inning. With the bases loaded and two outs David Carnicella earned a walk to tie the game which was then followed by a walk off single from the bat of McKenna. McKenna's three hits helped Tyler Suellentrop earn his first career win after pitching 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Game 2 of the double header with Santa Fe did not prove as kind to the Pioneers as they dropped it 4-3. On the mound for the Pioneers was Andres Fernandez who pitched well giving up zero earned runs in his 7 innings of work. The defense that has kept the Pioneers in so many games this season had a hiccup, making two errors that proved costly. The Pioneers have now won three of their last four games with two remaining non-conference games. The Pioneers hit the road to take on South Florida State College on Wednesday and Polk State College on Saturday. After those two games the conference season will begin.
