Pioneers Complete the Sweep

Pioneers Complete the Sweep

This was the second meeting with the Patriots, as they opened up on the road to start the season. The pioneers took care of business, completing the series sweep of the Pats 12-6. On the hill for the Pats was their ace Nate Pearson and for the Pioneers Brando Centrone. It was Centrone's first start of the 2017 season and he kept the Pioneers in the game long enough for the offense to come alive. A three run first had the Pioneers backs against the wall early but damage control was key and the Pioneers would answer in a big way. The Pioneers got to Pearson in the 5th for four runs and then followed up with another four spot on the bullpen in the 6th. The eight runs proved to be plenty as the bullpen held up for the Pioneers with the help of some insurance runs turned in by the offense.  The Pioneers offense was headed by sophomore catcher Dan Oberst who went 4-5 with four runs scored and reached base all six times he stepped to the plate. Freshman AJ Hrica added three hits of his own out of the nine hole, and sophomores Gilmore, Carnicella, and Mckenna were good for two knocks each. The Pioneers have a busy weekend here at home as they take on Seminole on Friday at 2:00pm and a double header Saturday at noon against the Saints of Santa Fe.
